Looks like this vintage Mercury Cougar has spent the last several years getting Rocky Mountain High. Steve was passing by when he spotted this Cougar sitting next to a quiet home. Like any good gearhead, he knocked on the door to inquire about the Merc but no one answered. He snapped a few pics and hopes to return to attempt to purchase this blue oval beast. The car appears to be all original as it has vintage white wall tires and minor wear on the body.

Ford introduced the Mercury Cougar in 1967 to give the Mercury brand a pony car of its own. The car had two options: base model and the XR-7 performance option. A 200 horsepower 289 Hipo motor was available with the base model while a 335 horsepower 390 came with the XR7. Mercury heavily campaigned the car in Super Stock drag racing. Here, a special trim package called the Eliminator did battle against cars like the COPO Camaro and the Plymouth Barracuda on America’s drag strips. The Eliminator came with the power plant option of a solid lifter 302 or a tuned 428 Cobra Jet motor.

We won’t deny that this Cougar looks great standing in front of the scenic mountain view. However, we feel that it would be better served cruising the highways. Helpfully Steve can purchase her and get this wild cat back on the road. Perhaps he will turn her into a drag car or a pro touring machine. What would you do if you were the new owner of this cat?
