Our friends over at RK Motors Charlotte have done it again, restoring a vintage American gem back to its former glory. Posted on YouTube, lay your eyes on this beautiful 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Nomad, which replicates the once highly touted ‘halo car’ from its hayday.
The first-generation Nomad was a unique automotive specimen that has withstood the test of time. A two-door wagon with so much attitude, even before modifications, the Chevy Nomad represented GM’s desire to keep in touch with their audience and giving them what they wanted.
In a time where cross country road trips and family time were abundant, the Nomad will be cherished as an American classic that has yet to be replicated today due to the evolution of sport-utility vehicles.
This RK Motors Nomad is for sale and is one resto-mod that is slicker than your average modern build. B-Mac’s Auto of Raleigh, North Carolina, spent a great deal of money to get a full frame-off restoration on the Nomad.
The age of curved glass is long gone, but this Nomad reminds us of the true beauty of swooping angles from bumper to bumper. The Nomad had rust issues in its floorboard and right door, but after hours of skilled metalwork, the car is now rust free. Painted with a classy combination of silver and white, the wagon retains its vintage look that is still revered to this day.
What has transformed into one exquisite masterpiece, this Nomad houses a 364 cubic-inch LS2 V8, which cranks out a balanced 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. Other modern additions for the Nomad include an EFI system, a GM 4L60E four-speed automatic tranny, Vintage Air air conditioning, and disc brakes.
A fully rebuilt suspension that consists of QA1 coilover shocks in the front and POSIES leaf springs in the rear. Power steering keeps the Nomad’s handling characteristics precise and up to code with modern day vehicles. A set of 15-inch painted steelies are wrapped with 215/70R15 and 235/70R15 BF Goodrich whitewalls, preserving the vintage aesthetic this Nomad holds onto dearly.
