DUI Crash Kills 1, Injures 2 And Totals ’70 ‘Cuda

It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt. We’ve all heard that saying from time to time. Unfortunately for three men and a ‘70 Barracuda, that saying proved to be true last weekend.

According to San Diego’s 10News [3], the driver of the car lost control, flipping the Barracuda, which caused injuries to him and other passengers and the ultimate demise of the classic Plymouth.

The accident occurred on Ashley Road, a popular two-lane country road in Ramona, California around 3:30p.m on November 13th. Dennis Morgan, a witness to the crash told the San Diego news station that he heard the driver punch the gas and put the car in a higher gear before speeding down the hill and then suddenly hitting the brakes near his house. Morgan then witness the Barracuda shoot through the front of his yard, eventually landing on its roof in his driveway after flipping three times.

[4]One passenger of the Barracuda, identified by the California Highway Patrol as 52-year-old Mark Andrew Jones, was killed in the accident after he was ejected from the car because he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. The other two men from the car, including Harold Green, the driver who was later charged with driving under the influence, were taken to a local hospital with injuries.

While it is a great tragedy that one man lost his life in the accident, it is fortunate that the outcome wasn’t worse. According to Morgan, the man driving the car narrowly missed a neighbor who was unloading a horse from a cart just 8 feet from the skid marks the Barracuda created in the accident.

Our condolences go out to the family of Jones for their loss. Based on the images of the Barracuda, we have a feeling it too met its tragic end in the completely preventable crash.
