In the vast expanse of the Bible Belt, there lay a barn in Hixson, Tennessee, that housed this fine automobile for a long time: a 1967 Pontiac Le Mans, now being listed on eBay. It is, of course, the base model of what could have been a GTO with the right engine, emblems, and exterior, but alas, it is not–even the lister threw “GTO” into the title, probably in the hopes of trying to snare some less-informed yet interested bidders.
The car is in decent enough shape for the treatment it’s received over the years. Granted, it’s quite rusty due to the many humid Southern summers it’s been harshly exposed to, but the 326 engine still turns over and the car “rolls free,” according to the owner.
It has had only one owner in its entire lifespan, and was purchased new from Trotter Pontiac in Chattanooga, where it was found in said barn (in nearby Lookout Mountain) according to the listing.
That said, at some point in its existence, the Le Mans must have served as an everyday vehicle, as it has now accrued well over 100,000 miles, and it looks worse for the wear. Some noticeable examples of this are the sun-damaged paint, missing rear bumper, and grotesque interior in desperate need of an overhaul.
On the upside, the car does come with some interesting history in the form of the original yet rodent-chewed manual and paperwork which were stored in the glovebox. Among some of the paperwork is the title, which has been kept in good shape, and it shows as having been issued in July 1970 in Georgia to the owner in question, a Mr. John V. Deffenbaugh. A pretty cool Pontiac, even if it isn’t a GTO.
