Ebay Find: “Full Cleveland” ’70 455 Buick Riviera

Ebay is an interesting “community” wafting about in the murky hinterlands of cyberspace. Puffing is commonplace and one must use due diligence when wading into “Blue Skyville.” A text book example of said puffery is this Ebay listing for a fairly rare 1970 455 Buick Riviera. Follow along as we ascertain exactly what we’re dealing with here.

Located in Brooklyn, this 102,000 mile (202K, 302K?) one -owner car looks fairly clean, complete and presentable. There are few of these old leviathan luxury barges left in any condition, so initially we’re off to a good start. This IS a very rare, one year design and the 455 is always a plus, but it does occupy a gray area in the pantheon of Rivieras as it doesn’t match the high-water mark years of ’63,’66 or the boat tail ’71, in desirability or value. Oh, and the car looks waaaay better with full fender skirts, the only year a Riv ever had ’em.

This car is also rollin’ the automotive version of the “Full Clevlend” (Brooklyn?) with one hell of a cookies and cream paint job,( “no damage evident,”) and an interior resplendent with orange piping, a schweet stereo system and Pep Boys aftermarket gauges. Thankfully, those goofy stick-on portholes are absent.

Our favorite part of the description is seller’s claim of “no odors,” in the interior. We find it hard to believe that this thing doesn’t have a residual hint of Little Tree air freshener and Paco Rabanne cologne co-mingling with the “Elk Grain” vinyl upholstery…

If this car is as clean and undamaged as seller says, it would be GREAT re-imagined as a Barris-like custom or returned to the way God and Bill Mitchell intended; a subtle, single hue executive hot rod. Or, leave it as is and head on down to the hipster watering hole, they’ll LOVE it.
