The days of drive-in restaurants are quickly fading away. Now replaced by fast food joints on every corner, the ’50s-style drive-ins that once hosted groups of people and their classic cars will soon fade away to just memories. However, according to a video we found on Autoholics.com, one drive-in in the Detroit area is keeping the classic-car nostalgia alive and from the looks of it, the food isn’t bad either.

Eddie’s Drive-In has been in the Cather family since 1987 when Ed Cather bought the drive-in restaurant. Inspired by the good ‘ole days, Cather wanted to have a ‘50s-style restaurant and created a favorite place for classic car enthusiasts. Part of Eddie’s appeal was the comradery Cather had with all of his customers, making sure to say hi to everyone that pulled in. According to John Jendza, a long-time customer, Cather “knew how to make people happy.”

Even though Cather passed away a few years back, Eddie’s is still hopping with classic cars and long-time customers who used to frequent the drive-in. Owned now by Cather’s daughter, Debby Meek, Eddie’s still serves the same food customers have enjoyed for years and even has carhops on roller skates like the old days.

It’s nice to see places like Eddie’s still exist. Seen more often in small towns than big cities, young and old car enthusiasts alike could benefit from having more places like Eddie’s around.

Although Autoholics questions whether classic cars like the ones seen in the video will survive once the Baby Boomers are gone, we have hope that younger generations still have an interest in the old school cars. While there may be more technology now, nothing compares to wrenching on and driving a classic. Thanks to places like Eddie’s, we’re confident that the appeal of the good ‘ole days will live on for many generations to come.
