Hump Day Holeshot: Cadillac Escalade Stomps Mecedes C300

With the notion that Cadillac will take on any other luxury brand, Cadillac recently released a video featuring a race between non-other than their Escalade and Mercedes-Benz’s C300. While Cadillac boastfully takes the win, there are a few problems with the race. Thanks to Autoblog for bringing us the video.

The Mercedes-Benz C300 is an entry-level luxury sedan. Powered by a 228hp V6 engine, it is no match for the 403hp V8-powered Cadillac Escalade. While a smaller car means less weight and traditionally faster track times, the Escalade more than holds its own against the smaller luxury car.

With a bit of innocent fun, the host of the video pulls a Cadillac CTS-V that is originally lined up with the C300 and replaces it with the Escalade. With a poke at the much smaller Mercedes, the host starts the race with a drop of the lights on a temporary drag tree. With little effort, the Escalade pulls away from the C300, crossing the finish line first. But that’s not where the pokes at Mercedes ends. The video ends with the Escalade towing the C300 away on a trailer.

OK. We get it. Cadillac is trying to show that even their cumbersome brute of a luxury SUV can outrun a Mercedes-Benz. But if they really wanted to impress us, they should have used something a bit more potent and comparable to the Escalade’s power. Fortunately for Cadillac, most observers of the video won’t know about the huge power advantage the Escalade had. But for us, sorry Cadillac, although we love you, your video isn’t fooling us.
