Like we really needed to hear this, but Chrysler Group got the message loud and clear, “We want stick shifts!” In a 4 to 1 margin, subscribers to both Chrysler Twitter and Chrysler Communications Facebook page replied in unison that they prefer manual transmissions over automatic transmissions.
One follower on Chrysler’s FB page, Thad Kirk Sr. replied, “Manual. It forces you to be more in control of the car and connected to it. It makes you an active driver rather than passive.” In a time where manufacturers are taking the driver out of driving, it’s nice for Chrysler to hear words like this.
Despite the limited interactivity provided by SRT’s new paddle shifters and Autostick options, the manual shifted, clutch pedal-operated transmission package is still a fan favorite. The questionnaire, posted on Wednesday the 14th, asked whether “you preferred manual or automatic transmissions and why.”
The most common reason behind the landslide in favor for manuals revolved around the intimate driving experience and control a manual offers over an automatic; the perception of “added control” and how it makes the driver feel “part of the machine.” Andrew Stoy explained, “A manual transmission is the only one that shifts exactly when I want it to every time.”
Currently, stick shifts are only available behind the HEMI in trucks and the Challenger. Hopefully a Charger and 300C option will be made available soon.
