This year parades with GM cars seems to be the thing to do. Many parades are taking place with Chevrolets at the Woodward Dream Cruise and other events to celebrate the company’s centennial anniversary.
But Chevrolets aren’t the only ones making headlines for notable cars on parade. Recently, GM News reported about almost 300 Cadillacs and their owners that pulled together for a county fair, recognition of the originator of Cadillac and a world record.
Some 298 Cadillacs paraded down streets in Barton, Vermont on August 17th, taking up over a mile-stretch of road at a time. The purpose of the parade was to mark the start of the Orleans County Fair.
Lorie Seadale, the woman responsible for the parade’s idea, chose Cadillacs to star in the parade because Barton is the hometown of Henry M. Leland, the founder of Cadillac. While Leland has passed on, several of his descendents still live in the Barton area and came out to participate in the parade.
Not only did the parade serve two purposes, it also broke the world record for number of Cadillacs in a single parade. The previous record was held by the Netherlands with 102 Cadillacs in a parade held back in 2002. With Leland’s hometown being in the states, Seadale expressed her excitement to GM News that they were able to bring the world record back “where it belongs.”
Congratulations goes out to Barton for setting the new world record by such a landslide. We hope Leland’s hometown can hold on to the record for a long time to come.
