Racing has been a major part of the automotive world for decades. An iconic part of automotive races was, and continues to be, the pace cars that start every race. To own one of the official pace cars from decades ago is an amazing honor. If you’re looking to own one of these historic cars, you have an opportunity to bid on a ’65 Plymouth Sport Fury pace car at an upcoming Mecum auction.
The car has a numbers-matching 383cui engine and an automatic transmission. It comes equipped with power steering and brakes. The car is a convertible with a power top and tonneau. The center console with tachometer, bucket seats, and front and rear bumper guards are just a few top-of-the-line features that this pace car has.
In true pace-car fashion, the Sport Fury has “Official Plymouth Pace Car” painted on both doors and comes with pace car flags and holders. To show its authenticity, the car comes with all of its original documents and Protect-O-Plate.
In addition to being an official pace car, this Sport Fury was manufactured at the Belvedere, Illinois plant the first year it was open. It was also one of the cars that carried iconic racer, Jimmy Clark, on the parade lap that opened the races back in the day.
If you are interested in bidding on this piece of automotive racing history, it is set to cross the auction block on Thursday August 18th at the Daytime Auction in Monterey, California. This lot will be available at 1:45p.m.
