Participants in the 2011 Bullrun event gathered this weekend in Las Vegas to kick off the annual event. For 2011, competitors will make their way to Miami in a variety of vehicles that almost defies description.
Among the collection that gathered on Fremont Street Saturday afternoon, a pre-production 2012 Jeep SRT8 looked mundane among Ferrari F430s and a Ford F-650 limo. Someone did uncover and bring along their 2000 Ford Mustang Cobra R for the run. As one of only 300 built, we hope they make it all the way and back home again.
The rally organizers opted for a later start on Sunday, as the event launch party Saturday night (and well into Sunday morning) was a huge success. The flag girl that waves competitors on their way from Fremont Street was none other than Amber Rose – American model and former wife of American Rap star, Kanye West.
The first overnight stop on the 7-day event is the W Hotel in Scottsdale Arizona, a 309 mile drive from Sin City, however, a checkpoint in Chloride, AZ, will keep everyone from getting too far astray. Rain after that checkpoint provided lots of opportunity for new adventures and some of the groupd responded.
Vanilla Ice, in the Firebreather movie car, encountered tire debris on the highway and had to take evasive action. The car was not seriously damaged. Some didn’t need the rain for an excuse, as Ice Marrow (Ice-T’s son.) took a wrong turn in that F430 and headed to California. Somehow managing to crack a wheel in the process, the pair arrived in Scottsdale on a flatbed.
