There’s no secret that we’re fans of the Pro Touring scene, but we’re constantly amazed by how quickly it’s growing. Up until just recently the Pro Touring crowd stuck to late 1960’s and early 1970’s American Muscle, but that’s changing at a rapid rate.

Hot Rod Magazine recently did a sweet build up of a ’79 Camaro Z28, and we’ve started to see several examples of other mid-1970’s muscle get the treatment as well. We found this build project of an ’83 Hurst Olds over on Pro-Touring.com, and while it’s not yet completed it looks to have the makings of something quite cool.
The base of the project is a legit ’83 Hurst Olds with factory T-Tops and a wheezy 180 horsepower 5-liter under the hood. The owner purchased a wrecked ’98 Camaro for the drivetrain that consists of an LQ4 motor backed by a 4L60E transmission.
The engine had actually been rebuilt 7000 miles prior to the Camaro’s demise, had been punched out .030 over, and had a Nitrous Cam installed as well as a Typhoon Intake.
Out back he’s yanked the old factory 10-bolt and replaced it with a nice beefy 9″ Moser w/ 35 spline Strange axles. The owner is improving the drivetrain of the car first, and we’ll keep tabs on this thread to see what happens with suspension, brakes, wheels, and tires.
