Video: Revenge of The Nerds in This 80′ Fiero GT Ad

Ah, the 1980’s. How far we’ve come. We found this vintage ’87 Fiero GT ad and knew you’d love it. Actually, it’s far more than just a TV commercial as it appears to be a sales aid video setup as a 6-minute long faux news program. The start of the show is a brand new ’87 Pontiac Fiero GT and the video itself features all of the things you’d expect from an ’80’s movie with stupid ’80’s hair, crappy ’80’s music, and a cast straight out of the old “Can’t Buy Me Love.”

The nerd in the movie is the Fiero owner, while his jerk neighbor with the hot wife is a Mazda RX-7 owner. The Mrs. Next Door Neighbor notices the “Ferrari” and goes over to ask about it. You can guess how things progress from there.

Truth be told, the Fiero was a great looking car that died off before it’s time could really come. It was only in production for a total of 5 years; 1984-1988. It was fairly underpowered and shared some suspension components with the Chevy Citations, and was really only starting to become a trick pony in 1988 with improvements to suspension, brakes, steering, and both the four-cylinder and V6 engines that had previously received a lot of criticism. Ah well, it wouldn’t be the first time Detroit killed something just as it was getting good!
