Fesler Built: 1969 “Project Blown” Camaro

In this Street Muscle Magazine video, we are introduced to Tyler Fesler from Fesler Built in Scottsdale, Arizona. The shop specializes in hot rod restorations and has its own line of billet CNC parts – which helps them create truly custom, one-off builds for clients. Additionally, Fesler has its own in-house upholstery shop. Each of Feslers unique attributes was used in their latest project car, a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro.

Fesler says they initially got the “Project Blown” 1969 Camaro in 2005. It was poorly set up for drag racing with an engine you could not see past and a badly cut fiberglass hood. While the engine bay and interior not only matched, each resembled a tin can. The owner tasked the shop to transform the build into an enjoyable pro-touring car.

The first thing Fesler did was tear the car apart and send it out to be blasted. He added new AMD fenders, quarter panels, steel hood, inner steel fenders, front and rear bumpers and spoiler in an effort to make the car body look new again.

The build also received Fesler flush mount glass which is DOT approved and installs into the car without modification. The flush mount glass gives the car a clean look and eliminates the factory chrome trim.

After the bodywork was completed, the car received its beautiful red paint applied by Gary Sharp.

The Camaro sits on a set of 19-inch Fesler FS905 3-piece wheels wrapped in Michelin rubber. A set of four-piston Baer Brakes are on each corner and to help give the car its aggressive stance, Fesler tells us they used a RideTech suspension setup complete with an Accuair e-level system and made use of a Chris Alston Chassis Works subframe.

Under the hood though is where the Camaro gets its name.

“As you can see we wanted to make a bold statement,” Fesler said. “We installed a custom built 540ci big-block topped with a Blower Shop 871 Supercharger,” Fesler said the car made 832 horsepower on the dyno.

Other performance enhancers include a Big Stuff 3 computer system and MSD ignition, distributor, and wires.

Earls Fittings were used for all engine connections, a custom wiper motor was used along with an Air Mobile custom built aluminum radiator with electric fan. The engine also received a full Fesler Built engine dress-up package which includes the fender braces, hood latches, and hinges, as well as billet washers.

The fiberglass hood was replaced with an AMD Steel hood which received a custom cut to fit the blower through the hood.

In 2017 the car made its way back to Fesler for an update. It received a new custom interior to make it feel a bit more modern. A Chris Alston hidden roll cage was added and the car received a custom Fesler Built center console that compliments its B&M shifter with line lock.

The update also included modifying the backseat to fit tubs, new door panels, Recaro Sportster seats, and a Vintage Air Surefit system with an anodized “dreamfit” controller was added.

Other interior highlights include Dakota Digital gauge cluster and housing and a Rockford Fosgate Kicker sound system with Pioneer head unit.

The car also received a Hydroboost brake system so it would stop better, an HPC black coated Blackwidow exhaust system, and stainless steel upper and lower radiator hoses.
