SEMA 2013: Total Cost Involved And Skrape Bring Out The Racing Wagon

IMG_0592We love it when someone brings out something you don’t see everyday, and makes it perform just like all of the other cookie-cutter cars out there. And when this four-door Nova wagon showed up wearing stickers for the Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge, we loved it too.

But it’s different in many more ways than just being a four-door wagon that autocrosses, this Nova also has four racing seats, four wheel disc brakes, and is driven by one of the co-founders of the TapouT clothing line, known by many as simply “Skrape”. His name was a shortened version of a nickname that he was given, and his height just about gives that way.

Sky Skrape was shortened to Skrape, and that is what Timothy Katz is known as by many these days, and he’s also known as the guy throwing that turbocharged, LS-powered wagon around in the turns at the Optima Challenge.

But, as with any good build, you’re not going to be pitching a car into the turns very well unless you have some help, and that help comes in many forms and in many sizes. For a car like this oddball to handle the turns, it needed some help in the suspension department, and that’s where Total Cost Involved Engineering comes into play.

Skrape said, “All of their parts went in very nicely. The parts were a complete bolt-in process and that made the transformation nice because I don’t weld!” The car was already a daily driver, of sorts, and it was slowly transformed into a racecar by the front Pro-Touring round tube clip, the rear torque arms that eliminated the rear leaf springs, and the shock tower elimination kit.

With a full cage, racing seats, and a satin olive-green wrap, the 1966 Chevy II wagon was just about ready. The front end was about 70 pounds lighter, thanks to the Total Cost Involved front clip, and Skrape was ready to hit the track with his Nova. A few adjustments here and there, and the boosted LS was putting about 540 horses to the rear wheels, and ready for action.

And if you see someone climbing out of this cool Nova wagon, look up!
