Metallica singer James Hetfield is not only a talented singer, it turns out he’s also got skills as a car designer.
This car is named Black Pearl, and it is a completely hand formed beast. Hetfield worked in collaboration with car builder Rick Dore, metal fabricators Marcel and Luc De Ley and painter Darryl Hollenback.
There is an excellent article in the Contra Costa Times profiling this striking automobile because it will be competing for the Mother’s Custom of the Year at the Goodguys Pleasanton car show.
This isn’t Hetfield’s first custom car but it may be his best yet. In the Times article, Hetfield is quoted as saying of the car, “We started out with a left-hand drive 1948 Jaguar Saloon,” Hetfield said. “We couldn’t get what we wanted out of it so we just kept drawing. Rick (Dore) had been in contact with Marcel and Luc so we just started from scratch.”
The one photo of this totally custom car isn’t enough to do it justice, so we also found this video we thought we’d share too.
