Sometimes there are stories that are hard to complete. Not because the story isn’t a great one, but choosing the BEST images is tough because there are too many great ones! Such is the issue with this article. I set out to pick some of the coolest images from the GM Photo Store’s Facebook page, but after walking out of there with a basketful of incredible views into the history of GM, choosing the best ones is a lot like deciding which of your children is deserving of the oxygen mask. Well, maybe not THAT bad, you may have a favorite child.

GM used numerous ways to highlight what was new within its cars. Everything from lifting bodies to swiss-cheese autos showed the goods. Pontiac even used transparent body panels to go under the surface for the 1939 World's Fair.

Throughout history, various GM plants have kept the doors open by building automotive products as well as other items needed for a specific time. Everything from the recent production of ventilators to tanks and aircraft for a more typical war effort have been produced in GM plants.

Production vehicles, aircraft, and even locomotives have kept GM employees, and the economy, going throughout the decades.

Damsels Of Design

And, of course, the car-buying market has changed alot throughout the decades, and GM sought to capitalize on the influence of women on car purchasing. GM hosted a team called the “Damsels of Design” under the guidance of Harley Earl in the ’50s, and kept with marketing to women throughout the decade. Many of images at the GM Photo Store highlight their contributions, as well as their marketing.
