The Pontiac GTO is a car both blessed and cursed by its popularity. What we mean to say is that its such a popular car, just about everything worth doing has been done. From hot rods to rat rods, drag cars to trailer queens, GTOs have been done just about every way. We say just about because every now and then, something comes along that makes us say “Huh, haven’t seen that one before.”
In the case of this ‘67 GTO Trar, that’s pretty much exactly what we said. In an unfortunate case of lost title-itis, this GTO recieved a last-minute transplant to save it from the scrap heap, according to Bangshift. But is life as a trar really any better? At least on craigslist, it is.
It depends on whom you ask, as those who participate in off-road shenanigans tend to have a distorted view of what’s “cool” and what’s not. A ‘67 GTO might be just wacky enough to be welcomed by a group of hardcore off-roaders, and with it sitting on an old K5 Chevy Blazer frame, this GTO can clear just about any obstacle, from fallen trees to muddy roads.
Under the hood is the Blazer’s Chevy 350 V8, while a SM465 transmission sends power to all four wheels. Because the title is lost, there is little hope of ever restoring this GTO to its glory days. But since it’s already halfway to being an awesome trar, why not invest in a flat black paint job and a few more bolt-ons for that tired small-block? With a little bit of work, this truck/GTO might even be downright respectable, in an oddball sort of way. Would you drive it, or is this the ultimate shame to the GTO?
