We love us some trars on Street Legal TV. What’s a trar, you ask? Well, it’s a cruck. Still don’t get it? Well, in this case it’s a ’75 Chevy Vega sitting on the frame of a 1986 Chevy Blazer. Car + Truck = Cruck. Truck + Car = Trar. It’s an insanely popular past time for mechanics of great skill but little taste. Or great taste, depending on who you ask.
But there is no denying that this find from Craigslist is as beautiful as it is bizarre; a ‘75 Vega sitting on an ‘86 Blazer chassis shouldn’t be this clean.
Under the hood is a “fresh” 350 V8, backed by a 700R4 transmission, and the ad implies that this is indeed a four-wheel drive vehicle. This burgundy beauty features a sunroof, “VEGA” spelled out in what appears to be rhinestones, and snow leopard-pattern seat covers. Yet despite all this, uh, “classiness,” imagine if you will a simpler interior, with that gorgeous gauge cluster and repainted dashboard.
Is this bizarre creation your type of oddball?
There’s potential here. For the asking price of $8,000, somebody has already done all the hard work. Give this Vega an outrageous paint job (Inferno Orange?) some modern wheels, maybe (definitely) a supercharger, and you’ve got one wicked ride. Or do you disagree? Can this Vega be saved, or are you just a trar hater?
