There is arguably a comic book hero with a more recognizable vehicle than Batman. The Batmobile, in all its wild forms and variants, from the Batboat to the Batwing, has captured the attention of comic book fans and automotive enthusiasts alike for decades. These rides are so prized that the original George Barris-built Batmobile just sold for $4.6 million.

But you know one vehicle that Batman never had? A freakin’ hot rod. Carscoop came across the perfect “Batrod” for the caped crusader, which was imagined and rendered by Mark La Franais.

A mix of old school cool, and radical design concepts, the Batman hot rod features dual gattling guns where the front fenders should be. A roof-mounted batwing looks more like a shark fin, we must admit, but the supercharged V-8 leaves no question that the Batrod means serious business. That, and the machine guns.

Based on the iconic ‘32 Ford coupe, the Batrod is painted in black and red, much like the Batmobile driven by Adam West. We can totally see West’s slapstick Batman rocking this into the Barris-built Batmobile days, but alas for now it is but a rendering. Hopefully though some Batman/hot rodder with the talent and time sees this rendering and decides to bring this machine to life. 

Because La Franais didn’t put much detail into the specs of the Batrod, we’re left to come up with our own ideas. Since Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy wrap up, that leaves the door open for a new take on Batman. While we enjoyed the contemporary take on the caped crusader, how about a throwback to batboys origins in the late 30s and 40s? This hot rod would fit right in with that era, and could have all sorts of “cutting edge” technologies, like radar, smoke bombs, and other secret military equipment from World War II.
