There have been many superheroes since comic books first captured our nation’s imagination in the 1940’s, but few have the lasting power and presence of Batman. Arguably the star of the DC Comics brand, Batman is notable for his lack of superpowers and rather his reliance on wit, skill, and gadgets to bring in the bad guys. If you ask us though, the real secret to Batman’s success has always been the Batmobile.
So it is about time that the most famous superhero vehicle of all time gets its own documentary, and this holiday season it will. The Batmobile Documentary will follow the evolution of the Batmobile from the original red car from the first issue through today’s tank-like armored rocket-jet thingy.
When we say the Batmobile is iconic, we mean it; without any superpowers, Batman needs a way to get around that is as intimidating and gadget-laden as he is. The documentary interviews the directors and actors who brought the Batmobile to life through all of its incarnations. And for you Family Guy fans, yes, Adam West will be interviewed…and apparently he did some things with the Batmobile that, in his own words, maybe he shouldn’t have done.
With the final piece of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy coming out this Friday, it seems an apt time to release a documentary about the Batmobile. Few cars have ever had the kind of resurgent screen presence that the Batmobile has, which brings us to the all-important question…which Batmobile is your favorite?
