On a recent upload from RamblinAround, the Rambler went for the wildest ride of his life. He was the passenger in a hot rodded 1987 Trans Am driven by his son Jordan.

A little over one year ago, Jordan purchased this 1987 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am as his first car. A third generation F-Body has been the car Jordan dreamed of owning since he was a kid.

When he brought it home, it had the LB9 (TPI 305) which had been modified with a cold air intake. It also had shorty headers on the exhaust and was attached to a 700R4 automatic. The exterior was rust free but had a faded red paint job. Being the son of the Rambler, this bird wasn’t going to remain stock for very long.

The Rambler and Jordan tore the car down in order to transform it into a low budget hot rod. The 305 was removed in place of a much stronger 350, this 350 was then bored .040 over to 357. The 357 has a 625 CFM Street Demon carburetor, performance intake manifold, an MSD ignition and Edelbrock valve covers.

The interior has a few mods of it’s own, a GT racing steering wheel, a B&M megashifter for the 700R4, a custom sheet metal shifter plate fabricated by Jordan himself and the coolest feature: a push button start.

The push button requires Jordan to turn the key to active the fuel pump, then flick a covered toggle switch to turn on the starter, then simply push the button to fire the car up.

The speedometer stopped working after the conversion from fuel injection to carbuertion, so a Garmin GPS is being used in it’s place. Jordan has a radar detector hooked up as well, he installed a custom power strip below the dashboard so he could use both.

The exhaust is lightly modified with shorty headers and a Flowmaster Y-pipe. Jordan plans on finishing the exhaust because currently “it sounds like a Tahoe.” He recently purchased a Cherry bomb muffler and 3.70 rear gears for his GM 9 bolt for his next project.
