Once a car reserved for only the wealthy, the Dodge Viper has been around for nearly two decades. That’s enough time for prices to come down, and plenty of parts from unfortunate vehicles to infiltrate the market. That’s why we have cars like the Viper-powered PT Cruiser and a Viper-powered Saab station wagon. But how about a Viper-powered family camper?
That would appear to be what the guys at Chrysler’s SRT division are up to, if their Facebook page is to believed. But really, is such an idea that far out there?
As we’ve already mentioned, it is not uncommon to find Viper powertrains in some very non-Viper cars these days. One that really sticks out in our minds is the Viper-powered Jeep Wrangler, keeping it in the Chrysler family but going a little crazy too. Which brings us to our next point; why hasn’t somebody built a Viper-powered RV?
Think about it for a second, and it starts to make a lot of sense. Ever try driving a 4-ton camper over the Rocky Mountains with a 200 horsepower diesel engine? We don’t have to tell you how slow and arduous a journey that is. But a 500 horsepower Viper engine could make the same journey without even sweating. It’d be even cooler if the front end could detach from the rest of the camper, allowing you to bring your ride right to the track! Ok, maybe now we’re the ones who are dreaming…but tell us, what weird vehicle would you like to drop a Viper drivetrain into?
