Whether you yourself participate in drag races or have just witnessed the excitement of the track, you know that races are measured in seconds. While there are some armatures races that beg the question if participants are really racing or just merely driving down the track, for the most part, races are over in 15 seconds or less. However, this is not the case for some drag races, as Jalopnik points out in their latest video find. Not only does the filmed race take over a minute to complete, it also involves a couple of odd cars.
The drag race takes place between a Goggomobil Coupe and a BMW Isetta, two cars that you would never expect to be making track passes, and for good reason. We’re talking a race between a car with a two-stoke, two-cylinder engine and a car with a four-stroke, one-cylinder engine. Needless to say, you’ll be twiddling your thumbs watching the race progress.
The race takes place on a slab of pavement parallel to a busy roadway so we don’t know exactly how far the cars raced to, but it couldn’t have been that far. With the acceleration of both cars severely lacking, we wouldn’t be surprised if it took them both over a minute to drag race to a quarter mile.
In the end, the Goggomobil Coupe prevails, flashing his lights at the finish line in a gesture of victory. While this type of race isn’t usually our type of thing, we thought it was worth sharing just for the comical relief. After all, it is Monday and anything’s better than working!
