Chevrolet has just unveiled it’s top-of-the line Corvette, the Z06, which will reappear as a 2015 model. And boy, is it a head-turner.
The new C7 Corvette Stingray is already pretty racey, and the new Z06 carries over some of the performance styling cues from its full-fledged racing cousin, the C7R. Chevrolet says every exterior change made to the Z06 over the “base” Stingray is fully functional, and they include flared fenders, a chin spoiler, a rear spoiler and larger vents.
But what the Z06 is really all about is the engine. The new 6.2 liter LT4 designation is a supercharged motor capable of 625 horsepower and 635 lb/ft of torque. Like the LT1 engine, the new LT4 will still have cylinder deactivation to help maintain reasonable fuel mileage as well as the variable valve timing GM uses to give the LT1 a desert-flat torque curve. The supercharger will be from Eaton and capable of spinning at an incredible 20,000 rpm. The upped rpm capabilities are matched with shorter roters, and the result is an overall quicker boost response.
But words certainly don’t do this car justice. Check out the video below for more.
