As the last of the carpeting is installed in miles of aisle ways, Detroit’s Cobo Hall is preparing to throw open its doors on Monday to automotive journalists from around the world. The 2011 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) will begin its run with Press Preview days on Monday and Tuesday. Doors will open to the public on Saturday, January 15.
Chrysler will be demonstrating Mopar versatility at this year’s show. A Moparized vehicle will be prominently displayed in each brand section, while vehicles throughout the exhibit will display a variety of Mopar’s performance parts and accessories. The 48,800 sq.-ft. exhibit on the main floor of Oakland Hall will feature more than 100 Mopar accessories and performance parts on a total of 57 vehicles.
“More than 30 percent of the people who are in the market for a new vehicle are influenced by the breadth and availability of aftermarket accessories,” mentioned Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand. “With our company’s launch of 16 new vehicles, Mopar is coming to the party with a truck-load of accessories that will fit a variety of lifestyles.”
The first Detroit Auto Show was held in December 1907, at Riverview Park after the formation of the DADA (Detroit Auto Dealers Association) that same year. Since then, the show has grown from a regional event with 17 exhibitors to a world-class showcase featuring more than 60 exhibitors.
NAIAS 2010 showcased nearly 40 total vehicle unveilings before nearly 5,000 international media from more than 60 countries, along with a host of government officials such as Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood. In addition, more than $2 million was raised for children’s charities at the annual black-tie Charity Preview.
