The week-long Hot Rod Power Tour will roll through Memphis in June, and for one Tuesday evening a hundred classic rides will take over Beale Street.
Hot Rod Power Tour is a yearly seven-day road trip during which time nearly 6,000 performance vehicles make stops at seven cities in seven days. The 2015 tour is scheduled for June 6-12 and will kick off in Madison, Wisconsin, before reaching its conclusion in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. On Tuesday, June 9, the horsepower festival makes its way to Memphis – home of valve train leader COMP Cams.
That evening the tour will head to historic Beale Street for Hot Rods on Beale, the COMP Cams-sponsored cruise night downtown. At approximately 5:30 p.m. one hundred hand-selected vehicles will receive a police escort from the day’s festivities at Memphis International Raceway (MIR) onto Highway 51 and into the heart of the Bluff City. Surrounding downtown streets will be used for additional parking. The result is an extravaganza of horsepower, chrome and gloss that serves as the perfect complement to the vibrant neon lights of the Home of the Blues and the Birthplace of Rock and Roll.
Throughout the day vehicles will also be on hand at MIR for a car show and drag racing competitions, while the COMP Cams Engine Builder Duel will pit two-person teams head-to-head to determine which one can assemble and run a Small Block Chevy engine in the shortest amount of time. Vendors from around the performance aftermarket will be showcasing their wares as well, creating a carnival-like atmosphere.
