Parades celebrating great military victories go back literally thousands of years, the the United States has kept this noble tradition alive. The U.S. actually has two separate days for celebrating military veterans; Memorial Day, and Veterans Day. Parade floats have become a popular way of expressing support for our veterans, though more often than not these are just trailers pulled by a truck or unfortunate car.
Up on Craigslist is a more creative interpretation of a parade float. Believe it or not, but this wacky-looking airplane once used to be a 1975 Chevy Monza. That poor, poor Monza.
Back before there was an Air Force, the U.S. military had the Army Air Corps, which operated mostly over Europe and North Africa, though it took part in action in the Pacific as well. It may be hard to believe, but the U.S. entered World War II over 70 years ago, and many veterans are dying off, leaving us few reminders of the battles they fought.
In order to help preserve the memory of the Air Corps, one Connecticut man turned a Chevy Monza into a gigantic parade float done up to look like an Air Corp fighter. While most people don’t draw the distinction, Ford chose the Mustang name in part because many ex-servicemen fondly remembered the P-51 Mustang air fighter.
We’re not sure what plane this is supposed to resemble, but if you want to take this unique float home, bring a trailer; it does not run. For a few bucks though, we think it’d make an excellent LeMons racer…
