Elvis Presley was rightly dubbed the King of Rock’n’Roll early in his career, giving him access to virtually unlimited amounts of money so he could have pretty much whatever he wanted. All that money let him to do things like fly to Denver for the sole reason of buying a sandwich known as the “Fool’s Gold Loaf”, a hollowed-out bread loaf filled to the brim with peanut butter, jelly, and a full pound of bacon.
In addition to his love of calories, the King also loved Cadillacs, buying literally hundreds over the course of his career. But there was one car that Elvis loved above all others, his custom-made 1972 Cadillac DeVille Wagon. Only two were ever made, with the other being sent to Dean Martin, and today you can own this piece of automotive and music history, if you’ve got a cool $1.5 million asking price just lying around.
As you might expect from The King, his Cadillac was over-the-top in the most overt ways, including 24 karat gold Cadillac and DeVille badging along with golden spokes on his wheels. Believe it or not, Elvis actually drove this Cadillac himself more often than not, and it is likely the last vehicle he ever drove, having been his personal favorite.
The Presley Cadillac wagon was been on display at the Elvis Presley Museum for a number of years before making its way to California. Now let’s talk about that $1.5 million posting over at Hemmings. Being so far removed from the heyday of Elvis-mania, it’s hard to imagine anybody stepping up to offer such a hefty price for a vehicle that’s value is based solely on it being owned by Elvis. No doubt its status as a unique creation owned by such a household name means it has some inherent value, likely to the tune of several hundred thousand dollars.
But we can’t fault the owner too much for the asking price, because as the King has been quoted saying, “Ambition is a dream with a V8 engine.” That seems oddly appropriate given the subject matter.
