Decades Later, Dad’s Beloved ’71 Olds Convertible Comes Home

dads_olds_3Sometimes a street machine is special for the things that it is not. This 1971 Olds Cutlass Supreme Convertible has been restored nicely to it’s original condition but it is in no way a car that would win any awards. As this YouTube video from Yahoo News shows, the car is driven and loved for the fact that the owner Zach Davis of Tulsa, Oklahoma, grew up with this car.

The car was purchased new in 1971 by Zach’s father, and he was so proud of his new ride that he included it in the family Christmas card photo. Unfortunately, shortly after the purchase Zach’s father died. However, the car continued to be a part of the family as it served them well for 16 years.

The car was located in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where it was well taken care of during its absence from the Davis clan.

After all those many years, Zach sold the car but he soon felt that he made a mistake. Recently, Zach decided to track down his dad’s Olds and found it to be alive and well in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The guy Zach sold it to had kept the car in good condition and even freshened up its outward appearance with a coat of white paint. Zach bought the car back and began a program that would restore the Olds to its original showroom condition.

This story of a restoration project is a testament to a father who was taken too soon and a son who wanted to keep something of his dad close to him. There’s no custom paint, high-performance parts or super deluxe interior work involved in this street machine. There’s just fond memories and love. Tell me, can you think of a better reason?

The car even sported a fresh coat of white paint, and now that Zach again owns the Olds, it has been restored to its factory specs and has a new message on the license plate.
