Chrysler has been rolling out a lot of special edition Challengers in the last few months. Whether it be the SRT8 392 Inaugural Edition, the Vanishing Point “Kowalski” Edition, or any one of the dozens of aftermarket tuner shop cranking out their own vision of the Challenger, there are plenty of special editions out there for every purpose and purpose.
Now we can add another special edition to the lineup, the Dodge Challenger “Extra Crispy” Edition. The one-of-one car is what happens when a Challenger catches fire on the Brampton, Ontario assembly line, according to a post on Moparts.
OK, so this isn’t really some special edition dreamed up by a crackhead with a Chrysler paycheck, but rather an awful car fire that claimed what might have been an SRT8 392 Edition Challenger. The official story is that some paperwork attached to the car got too close to a heat lamp and caught fire, but we’re not sure that is the whole story.
Take a good, long look at this picture. The front end of this car is completely melted. That pool of plastic at the front of the car? Probably once the front bumper. And half of the aluminum hood is completely melted away as well. It looks to use like the fire started under the hood, as opposed to some pieces of paper catching fire. The front end of this car looks to have been completely engulfed in flames at some point. It’s completely totaled, no doubt, and we hope this is just some fluke rather than a more serious issue that could crop up down the road.
