In Alpharetta, GA a 2017 McLaren 720S took cops on one helluva chase, as dash cam footage released this week shows the car reaching 155-mph on a public highway. Even at those supercar speeds, the driver still couldn’t shake the Dodge Charger, as the officer stayed on the car’s tail the entire time.
The Dodge Charger used by police departments isn’t exactly the same setup you’d drive home with as an average car buyer, but it’s still a big check for the model. In a police-spec state, the car has a top speed of 150-mph, a 5.7 HEMI V8, and this cop kept her cruiser at the limit during the chase.
It was when the McLaren flew past the officer’s marked Charger on Georgia State Route 400 on early Sunday morning that the chase was on. The cop initially paced the car at 105-mph, when the driver opened it up and quickly sped to 155-mph once they noticed the cop car. The officers said she then pushed her Charger to 143-mph, before backing off a bit for her safety, and the safety of other motorists, she maintained a visual.
This continued for about 5-miles, and two minutes, when the McLaren driver slammed on the brakes, and pulled over, coming to a total stop in a matter of seconds. When the officer approached the supercar, she asked for an explanation about the speeding, and the driver was clearly intoxicated and went on to fail a sobriety test. The 46-year-old driver was charged with DUI, speed, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and on top of everything else…driving with an expired tag.
