One of the largest car shows of the year is the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. American automakers often wait for this show to unveil some of their most anticipated products. While Chrysler isn’t hinting at any ground shaking announcements, they will be bringing a Dodge Dart GT to the showroom. While cool, the Dart GT isn’t the SRT vehicle we were hoping for.
But OntarioStreetCar.com purports to have come across leaked images of the Dodge Dart SRT-4 that we’re all hoping and praying for. But can these leaked images be trusted, or are we just getting our hopes up?
There is reason to be skeptical, first and foremost is the lack of a crosshairs grille that all Dodge vehicles now have. Now you could reason that since Chrysler is positioning SRT as its own sub-brand, a crosshairs grille might not make sense. Fair enough. But is Chrysler really considering that sort of slitted hood? It does remind us of the Dodge Neon SRT-4, but not in a good way. It also says right on the drawing that this is a “preliminary sketch”, meaning anything could change between now and potential production.
Details are non-existent, and the image isn’t the best, but we think it is all but a sure thing that Dodge will build a Dart SRT-4. Looking at some other renderings (and even a real photograph from somewhere overseas), it seems as though this could be a good indicator as to what to expect from a SRT version of the new Dart. As far as what it gets for power or motivation. Anything less than 250 ponies will be disappointing, and to be a trust SRT model, we think 300 horsepower is a must. What would you like to see in a Dart SRT-4?
