Every year on the third Sunday of August, the Woodward Dream Cruise event held along Woodward Avenue in metro Detroit attracts hundreds of thousands of automotive enthusiasts – especially those with a proclivity for classic American iron. So it’s no surprise that the Big Three make a point to parade out their newest high performance offerings at the event.
For Mopar’s part, Dodge will be showcasing the much-loved Plum Crazy purple paint hue that will be available on 2016 SXT Plus, R/T models, Hemi Scat Pack Shaker, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat Challenger and Charger models.
The unusual shade is near and dear to many Pentastar fans, as it was one of the wild colors offered on 1970 models like the then-new Challenger, Charger, Super Bee, and other performance offerings.
For potential Hellcat owners, the new rare color, along with the rarity of the SRT Hellcat cars themselves, has some people speculating that the combination could become something of a collector’s item.
With many heralding the SRT Hellcat Challenger and Charger has instant classics, it’s a safe bet that Plum Crazy models will likely have an added level of desirability down the road, though just how much of a difference that might be is difficult to quantify.
Customers that are chomping at the bit for a violet Mopar muscle car can being placing their orders in September, while dealers will get their turn in October. Production will begin in November and deliveries should commence about six to eight weeks afterward.
