Fiat-Chrysler wasn’t quite prepared for the popularity explosion of the 707 horsepower Dodge Charger and Challenger Hellcats, though executives were thrilled with the sales. Hellcat sales twice exceeded internal predictions, and FCA was forced to cancel hundreds of pending orders to allow production of the 2016 Hellcat model to begin.

With the 2016 model year comes a few changes for the Dodge Hellcats, including a new ordering system that will discourage price gouging…and a new, higher price, according to The Detroit News. We’re not sure if that qualifies as irony or just coincidence, but that’s the way supply and demand works, right?

The prices aren’t a huge jump, with the Challenger Hellcat going from $59,995 up to $62,495, a $2,500 increase, while the Charger Hellcat sees its MSRP rise from $63,995 to $65,495, a bump of $1,950. Those that had their 2015 backorders canceled were sent a voucher from FCA to get a 2016 Hellcat at 2015 prices, thankfully, but other Hellcat buyers are surely wondering what their extra money gets them.

FCA isn’t releasing all the details on the 2016 Hellcat changes, but both models will now come with navigation as a standard feature, along with the Laguna leather interior. But the Hellcats are doing a lot more than bringing in a few extra bucks to the Fiat-Chrysler mothership, as the pair of high-powered hitcars has raised brand awareness for both Dodge, and the whole FCA family. Merchandise and vehicle sales are up, and people are talking about Dodge and the Hellcats in the kind of ways that automakers dream of.

But with looming CAFE and MPG standards dictating engine downsizing, will Hellcats and other beastly V8-driven monsters survive, or go extinct?
