The first limousines were designed and built for wealthy industry magnates who could not be bothered to figure out the nuances of starting and driving an early automobile. Over the past century, limousines have become the fixtures of the rich and famous. Most of us, if we’re lucky, will only ride in a limo on the way to prom night, or our wedding. Even so, people with money to spend often find funky ways of turning their favorite car into a limo.
The Dodge Viper limo pictured above makes no sense for a lot of reasons. And yet it exists, and was unveiled this past weekend at the Las Vegas Speedway, reports Auto Guide.
Why someone decided to build a stretch Viper, we don’t know, though it obviously defeats the purpose of having a V10-powered sports car. The first-gen Viper has been stretched from a short-wheelbase two-seater to a long-wheelbase human hauler, with seating for six (two up front, four in the back.)
The door situation is…odd, though the Viper looks well built. No surprise there; Unique Movie Cars, who designed and built K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider (among many other movie cars) was behind the project. The Viper limo made its debut chauffeuring Oscar Goodman, Grand Marshall of the Sam’s Town 300 from this week. Where it goes from there, we don’t know…a high-speed track taxi, perhaps?
