When GM turned in its bankruptcy papers in the summer of 2009, it met with government lawyer-types to discuss some serious downsizing of the global juggernaut. Pontiac was among the four brands offered up as sacrificial lambs, ending decades of automotive excellence that included the Trans Am, an iconic piece of American automobile. Thankfully, dedicated enthusiasts kept the Trans Am’s spirit alive with a Camaro conversion kit.
eBay item number 310940805045 is a 2012 Camaro SS convertible with just 2,700 miles on it, which you could barely consider broken in. But the best part of this car is the Trans Am conversion kit that it wears, throwing it back to the days Smokey and the Bandit, but with 21st century style.
There are only two drawbacks to this Trans Am conversion as far as we can see; the fact that it’s an automatic (eww) and the price is a hefty $65,000. Considering this Camaro does come with paddle shifters, and it would cost a lot more than $65,000 to replicate this vehicle. Other than the substantial Trans Am conversion though, this is an otherwise stock Camaro SS.
Even with the high price and slushbox transmission though, there’s a lot to love about a topless Trans Am. You’re not going to run into another one of these T/A conversions in the grocery parking lot, for example, and the back end is a huge improvement over the stock Camaro booty if you ask us.
It’s all about beauty being in the eye of the beholder though, and with two days left on the auction with over 100 watchers keeping an eye out, somebody is probably going to buy this 21st century Trans Am.
Lucky them.
