Hennessey Performance has been putting their performance in the news, and in the record books lately, and the current record for the Texas Mile is their one-of-a-kind Ford GT. The camouflaged GT with it’s twin-turbo, race prepped 5.7 liter engine ran more than 267 mph on 117 octane, breaking it’s own speed record.
Remembering back when cars had limiters or governors that kept the speed down, and people wanted the governor removed so they could go fast seemed like a pointless thing to do; who was ever going to take their car over 130 MPH anyway? But today, 130 MPH is the top speed of an economy car, and with horsepower figures reaching 400+ on modern musclecars, and up to 1000 horsepower on modified Vipers and Ford GTs, it seems the sky is the limit when it comes to top end.
We saw the Bugatti Veyron hit over 250 MPH, and it was on. Hennessey’s own Venom became the next big thing, and tuning Vipers and GTs became even bigger news. There’s just something about a factory car that sees nearly double it’s stock horsepower, and knowing that you can own one – for the price of a modest home, that is.
Currently on eBay, we found this Hennessey-tuned Ford GT for just a tad under $300k, with twin Garrett turbochargers working in sync with the factory supercharger. So what does this combination of triple-boosting the GT provide? According to Hennessey, it allows for better low end torque for better throttle response without the dreaded turbo lag.
So if you’ve been wondering what to do with that vacation cottage that you never visit, now’s your chance to pick up a GT with 1,000 horsepower and 865 lb-ft of torque. And if those numbers don’t impress, how about 0-60 in under three seconds, 10.6 second quarter mile times, and more than triple the national speed limit at 242 mph. Is that enough to convince you that you need more power than what you currently have? We can only dream.
