As you no doubt have heard, last weekend was the bi-annual Texas Mile event, a gathering of speedfreaks, gearheads, and hangers-on who come to Beeville, Texas for one thing. That one thing is to see really fast cars go really, really, as in speeds topping 200 mph fast. There have been some truly impressive runs in the past, but no car (still in one piece) can hold a candle to the digital camo Ford GT built by Hennessey Performance.
Packing twin-turbochargers, a race-prepped 5.7 liter engine, and 117 octane racing fuel, this one-of-a-kind Ford GT went out and broke its own speed record, achieving a top speed of more than 267 mph according to the Texas Mile Facebook page. We have just one word for that. Wow.
The official speed was 267.6 mph, about 4 mph faster than the previous record that the Ford GT set last fall. While more details and video still haven’t been posted, we can tell you that this ridiculous Ford GT is owned by Mark Heidaker, though it wasn’t him behind the wheel. Instead he left the job of piloting this earth-bound rocketship to Sean Kennedy, who has been Heidakar’s go-to driver for the past few years.
But suffice to say, Heidaker’s Ford GT is now ranked as the fastest street legal car in the world, beating out even heavyweights like the Bugatti Veyron, which is limited to ONLY 255 mph. This Ford GT makes that look almost slow, though we’d pay good money to see this Ford GT go head-to-head against the Bugatti…if only to put those flashy Germans in their place.
Second place.
