eBay Find of the Day: ’71 DeTomaso Pantera Group IV Racecar

What do you do with an old race car? You certainly can’t license it for the road again without significant work, so likely the next best thing is to go vintage racing. Today’s eBay Find of the Day is just waiting for you to get your racing license, a trailer and a full can of race gas.

This ’71 DeThomaso Pantera is a seriously prepared race car, from the acid-dipped body panels to the TIG-welded chrome-moly 4130 alloy roll cage.

With a fresh, 650hp Ford 351 V8 and new Centerforce clutch, its time to start planning your race season.

According to the seller, the car has a clear title, rust-free body and has never been damaged. It is noted that the wheels shown in the photos will be replaced before delivery with the car’s original Group IV wheels (15 X 10-inch front, 15 X 14-inch rear) and all-new Hoosier racing tires.

Complete with onboard fire supression system, adjustable suspension and custom made exhaust headers, this is a car that was meant to be run at speed. In fact, they say it was clocked at 206 mph during a session at Pocono Raceway.

If you do head up to Westfield, MA, for a test drive, you’re likely to find the ZF transaxle a bit noisy. The seller mentions that the “ZF Transaxle functions like it should,” which would be entirely correct because they were all amazingly noisy, nonetheless durable.

With less than two days remaining on this auction, the reserve bid has not yet been met. A few active bidders have run the top offer to just over $30K, but there must be some room to go.

Contact information is included in the listing, so the seller can likely be negotiated with if a re-listing is necessary. This is a serious car that is largely unaffected by its age. For anyone that wants to go fast, this is a car that will handle it with ease.
