When Dominic Toretto uttered the phrase, “I live my life a quarter-mile at a time” in The Fast and the Furious, it was a prolific moment of a man who lived his life in the fast lane. He said that for those “ten seconds or less” he felt like a free man, like he didn’t owe anything to anyone.
Of course, that was Hollywood, and while it was meaningful at the time, there’s more truth to that quote when you refer to the subject of this article. Found on eBay is an original 1968 Hemi Dart owned by Gene Snow and driven by Terry Pringle. This car truly did live its life a quarter mile at a time, showing only 20 miles according to the listing.
With an ad price of $295,000, this is not going to be just anyone’s car. The restoration alone was listed at about $150,000 to bring it back to its pristine state from the basket-case condition it was found in. With the original VIN found on the trunk lip and the block showing to be the original to the car, this number 3 of 57 known to exist makes it a valuable find.
Both carburetors are date-code correct and are mounted to a genuine magnesium cross-ram intake, and the vehicle graphics take you right back to the 1960s. The Cragar wheels are not only period correct, but they appear to have been a part of the restoration and look as if they’re brand new.
As for “those ten seconds,” this lightweight factory Hemi Dart set the National Record of 10.15 seconds in 1968. This car is the epitome of that moment in the movie, and now it’s up for auction, so here’s your ten-second car, Toretto.
