The tie-up between Chrysler and Fiat has already yielded some unexpected surprises, including a return to profitability for the Pentastar as well as the re-introduction of the Fiat brand in America. On the flip side, Chrysler is attempting to make headway in the old world, where many of its mainland models wear the Lancia models. In the UK though, Chrysler is still known as Chrysler, and the 300C sedan is a luxury car of a different sort.
For one, Carscoop reports that the UK version of the Chrysler 300C stickers for $58,500. Another difference is the engine options, as there are none. The only available motor is a turbo diesel V6 making 236 horsepower and almost 400 ft-lbs of torque. Wait, what?
Yes, you read that right; the UK Chrysler 300C gets a 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel engine, the same engine that the Jeep Grand Cherokee gets in Europe in order to meet onerous emissions and fuel economy standards. The 3.0 liter diesel engine makes 398 ft-lbs of torque, more than the HEMI-powered 300C here in America (which produces 390 ft-lbs of torque). It also makes that torque at lower RPM’s, meaning the UK 300 should toast its tires with ease.
For all that torque though, the European 300C still manages to net fuel economy of nearly 40 mpg on the UK standard, or about 33 mpg here in America. A 33 mpg full-size, rear-wheel drive sedan with 400 ft-lbs of torque? Somebody pinch us, we must be dreaming. Now if only Chrysler would offer this engine in the U.S…
