With summer having officially arrived, so has come the annual Barrett-Jackson auction in Orange County, California. And as usual, the B-J auction was chock full of high-priced classics, exotics, and vintage automobiles commanding impressive sums of cash. And as usual, there was one car there that everybody knew would be the real star.

This year, that car was the first production 2013 SRT Viper, the first of its name, a car whose return is one of the most teased and anticipated events of the year. As Autoblog reports, the Viper did not disappoint, with the final bid coming to a whopping $300,000, with the proceeds going to the Austin Hatcher Foundation.

Number-one cars often draw a price premium, and it shouldn’t be surprising that the 2013 SRT Viper quickly double its suggested MSRP. Bidding reportedly stalled around $250,000, at which point SRT officials threw in an SRT Track Experience and a trip to the Petit Le Mans. This helped bring bidding up to $300,000, where the price stalled until the gavel fell.

That’s a very respectable showing for the first SRT Viper, which was sold in Stryker Red and will benefit the Austin Hatcher Foundation, which donates money to families and children suffering from pediatric cancer. So somebody gets a nice car and a nice tax write-off, and we’re sure this 2013 SRT Viper is already on its way to a climate-controlled garage if it isn’t there already.
