Large SUV’s seem to have fallen out of favor with much of America’s middle class, as tough economic times and rising gas prices have pushed many people into smaller, more fuel efficient cars. But things for America’s top earners are still pretty good, and fast, luxurious SUV’s are still all the rage with the so-called job creators.
That is why we have things like the Hennessey Performance HPE 800 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. Jalopnik reports that this twin-turbo, 800 horsepower beast can be yours for a cool $235,000.
While not the most expensive car on the planet, it certainly is up there. Heck, the factoryGrand Cherokee SRT starts at about $56,000, so Hennessey must have put a whole lot of work into it for almost $200,000 more.
And well, they did, starting with a twin-turbo system that boosts the 6.4 liter HEMI’s horsepower to 805 ponies and torque to 823 ft-lbs, backed up an upgraded transmission and 15-inch Brembo brakes. This combo is good enough for a 10.9 second sprint down the quarter mile at 130 mph. That’s faster than your Corvettes, Shelbys, and Vipers right there.
Of course Hennessey has also added its touch to the exterior and interior as well, like lightweight alloy wheels, custom leather seats, and a carbon fiber front splitter. Just 24 of these brutish SUV’s will be built, and we’re sure exclusivity is built into the price as well. If you could, would you drop almost a quarter of a million dollars on a Jeep Grand Cherokee?
