If you missed the first generation Challenger back in the late sixties and wish you were born in the era of disco, Nixon and Mr. T, your ship has come in. Dodge is bringing a Challenger concept called Holy Guacamole to SEMA 2021, and it’s a cross between a life-size Hot Wheel and everything we love about 70’s Mopars.
The starting point for this refrigerator green machine is a 2021 Scat Pack Wide Body Challenger. Dodge then adds a Mopar coil-over kit and a set of gigantic, knock-off “Magnum 500″ style wheels from Forgeline, and then dips the thing in a vat of paint called “Rotten Avocado.” A matching stripe is the perfect garnish for this retro treat.
Under the hood, the Challenger gets the familiar 392 HEMI and a”Gold School” functional shaker hood scoop. No word on whether the mill got a power boost but we’re guessing it’s just shy of 500hp, the figure we’ve seen from this engine over the last few years.
Looking inside, you might cry out “Holy Guacamole” at the top of your lungs. The lime green plaid seats and door inserts look like they were borrowed from the “Men’s Sportswear” department at Montgomery Ward back in the day. The dash has a heavy dollop of “wood-tone” plastic trim that is similar to what swathed most up-level Mopar E-body interiors from the era.
The only thing that’s missing is a black vinyl top and that would have really cemented the retro theme for us. For those who might think a vinyl top is too corny, please revisit the interior fabric.
Pebble grain plastic top or not, this Challenger is a very cool idea and we think it would go over big as a trim option on the current car. Be sure and stop by Stellantis’ booth at SEMA and check the “Holy Guacamole” Challenger concept.
