It’s hard to believe that it has been almost a year since Chrysler unveiled the new SRT Viper. Sure it still looks like the Viper we all know and love, but underneath that sleek skin is an all new beast. Viper fans old and new alike flocked to a handful of Chrysler dealers to place their orders, and if you’ve been putting it off, you’re going to have to wait a bit longer.
Ralph Gilles told Wards Auto that all 800 2013 SRT Vipers have already been sold, and more than 80% of those models were the more-expensive GTS coupe model. For those of you wanting a convertible version of the Viper though, you might have to wait a few more years.
Gilles has indicated that the Viper will sell in limited numbers, and as with any popular car, owning the latest and greatest version always brings out the heavy hitters. Many of these Vipers will no doubt sit all but untouched in collections, while others will be modified to make four-figure horsepower numbers. Others will probably just be driven and enjoyed. How many of them were “Launch Edition” Vipers? Gilles doesn’t say.
A roofless roadster version might be a few years because the last Viper saw more than 60% of buyers opt for the coupe models. It could be for performance aspirations, or because buyers aren’t as fond as convertibles as they used to. But being available as a coupe doesn’t seem to have discouraged Viper fans at all. We wonder how long that waiting list is right now?
