With numbers like billion and trillion thrown around these days, a mere million dollars may not seem like much. But to most people, it is more money than they’ll earn in their entire lifetime. In order to spend a million bucks on a car, you have to have a lot more than just a million bucks. Thus the market for such expensive cars is rather small, and only the crème de la crème of classic automobiles can ever hope to achieve such value.
So, is a ’71 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 W-30 worth a cool million bucks? At least one guy thinks so, as we found this ad over at the Hemings Auto News listing just such a car for sale for $995,000. OK, so it’s not exactly a million bucks…but it’s damn close. So, is this Olds worth it?
No, actually, it is not.
It isn’t even close to worth a million bucks. Even a numbers matching ’71 4-4-2 with the W-30 package (which automatically included the W-25 Ram Air fiberglass hood option) is only worth in the area of $100,000. Max.
So we got to snooping and checked out the sellers website, The San Diego Collection. Turns out this was something of a huge, huge typo. The seller is asking $99,500, not $995,000 as the Hemmings ad would suggest. Oops!
All is not lost of course. Less than 1,000 Olds 4-4-2’s with the W-30 package were built in 1971, making it a relatively rare car. And we gotta say, this one looks very clean and complete and worth a fair amount of coin. Just not a million bucks.
