As far as making YouTube videos and tire smoke, Ken Block has few peers. The DC Shoes and Gykmhana/Hoonigan frontman has become one of the Internet’s most-celebrated athletes, even though he rarely wins races when it comes to actual competition. Compare that to Formula One’s Lewis Hamilton, who already has three F1 championships to his name at the tender age of 30 and has earned a massive following among fans as a result.
Apparently though, Hamilton is a huge Ken Block fan, to the point where he pursued trying to purchase the Gymkhana star’s famous 845 horsepower, all-wheel drive ‘65 Mustang dubbed the Hoonicorn. According to Autoweek, Hamilton only lost interest in the car when he heard Block’s price.
The 48-year old Gymkhana mastermind may not win many races (though he has taken a few checkered flags here and there, we should note), but he’s become an Internet sensation thanks to his combination of slick driving skills, outlandish vehicles, and post-production editing. The Hoonicorn is the most-bonkers vehicle in Block’s garage without a doubt, and it doesn’t strike us as surprising that he wouldn’t readily part with it, at least not for a princely sum, even the two racers have worked together before.
While Hamilton may have made a substantial offer for the Hoonicorn, a car that undoubtedly cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to build, Block apparently tossed out such a high number that reflected his unwillingness to part with his creation. And who can blame him? The Hoonicorn is a truly unique car, and one that Block obviously isn’t done enjoying. We’re just imagining him striking his best Dr. Evil pose and quoting Hamilton a price of “one million dollars”, his pinky finger propping up a diabolical smirk.
Get yourself a little Hoonicorn action in the video below. Can you blame Block for not wanting to sell?
