wish-charger-3Too many of us take our health for granted, while there are kids out there who know nothing but illness. Diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma, 16-year old Matthew Wood has been battling serious cancer for most of his teenage life. This has seriously hampered his plans to restore a 1969 Dodge Charger that him, his father, and his brother bought as a project car a decade ago.

wish-charger-4So when the Make-A-Wish foundation asked Matthew what he wanted, he told them straight up; restore my 1968 Dodge Charger for me and my family. Make-A-Wish approached Morrie’s Automotive Group to undertake the restoration, and Hemmings Auto Blog was happy to report that the work is done, and Matthew has excitedly taken delivery of his fully-restored Charger.

Based in the Minneapolis-St, Paul area, Make-A-Wish contacted Morrie’s back in January, and work on the project began almost immediately. From start to finish the whole project took about 5 months and 600 man-hours to complete. More than 40 individuals helped to restore this ride, and we could not think of a more noble cause than fulfilling a sick kid’s dream.

The day after getting the car, Matthew was finally able to get behind the wheel of his dream ride. Though his cancer has been in remission since September, Matthew still faces a lifelong battle with an illness that has haunted him for years. But with his cancer gone, and sitting behind the wheel of his fully-restored ‘68 Charger, life must be looking pretty good for young Matthew.
