Hollywood is just as in love with fast, nice cars as we are, and many a star car has gone on to bring big bucks at auction. Of course, some cars (and stars) are worth more than others. There is no NADA guide for adding value based on previous owners or roles in average movies. It really comes down to a personal thing. Is David Spade a big enough star to add a few extra zeroes to the end of a car auction?
Probably not. But Hemmings Auto Blog did come across this 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente from Spade’s movie Joe Dirt. And it is heading to auction Express Auctioneers selling block.
The ‘64 Comet Caliente is one fine automobile if you ask us, and this droptop looks clean from front to back. Under the hood is a 289 V8 with three 2-barrel carburetors backed by a C4 automatic transmisson. This was not the star of the movie though; that role belonged to a battered and bruised ’69 Charger Daytona, which Spade/Dirt cruised around Los Angeles.
The listing for this car is around $18,000, which seems more than fair for a fully restored mid-60’s droptop muscle car. But does that include a star-power premium? Probably not. Can Joe Dirt add a few extra bucks to the sale of this Comet? We’ll have to wait and see.
